Randi Weingarten Says We Need NPR for Democracy

‘That’s the backsliding of democracy’

EXCERPT:

WEINGARTEN: "If we don’t have NPR, if we — just like we have lost so many local newspapers, how do people have enough actual basis so that they know what’s going on in the world? And if you’re trying to censor curriculum in K-12, if you’re trying to ban books, if you’re trying to undermine all of that, how do we help our kids know how to think, not what to think? And then, at the same time as you're actually retracting on knowledge and retracting on information, what you’re doing is creating this bigger and bigger enforcement that is essentially a police state. That's the backsliding of democracy."
