Federalist’s David Harsanyi: Australia’s Solution to Gun Violence Is Not Feasible Here Because It’s Confiscation
‘We have a Second Amendment here and there is no way around that’
EXCERPT:
HARSANY: "Well, first of all, you know, you hear it all the time. But it’s not a feasible solution because it’s essentially confiscation. We have a Second Amendment here and there is no way around that for people who would like to get around it. And secondly, what they never mention is during the same time from the mid-90s until maybe a year or two ago, there was a huge drop in crime here as well, except we had a spike in gun ownership. So, obviously there is no correlation or at least there doesn’t seem to be any correlation between ownership and between guns. As far as the murder rate, we do have a higher murder rate. We had one before and I think there are a lot of other societal reasons for that."
