Zohran Kwame Mamdani (born October 18, 1991) is an American politician. He is the representative for the 36th district of the New York State Assembly, in Queens. A member of the Democratic Socialists of America, Mamdani was elected after defeating incumbent Democrat Aravella Simotas in the 2020 primary. Mamdani is a declared candidate for the 2025 New York City mayoral election
