Biography

Nayib Bukele is a politician and businessman who broke with the bipartisanship established since the postwar period, and has generated a positive transformation in the perception of Salvadorans about the direction of El Salvador and its position both in the region and in the world. On February 3, 2019, he won the presidential elections with a wide advantage, becoming the youngest President in the country’s history and the youngest in all of Latin America.

His resounding presidential victory was preceded by his two terms as mayor. The first in Nuevo Cuscatlán, a small municipality in La Libertad that became renowned thanks to a new form of municipal management. The second was in the country’s capital, San Salvador, where he also implemented new forms of development, hand in hand with public-private alliances, which favored the residents of the capital and whose most notorious work was the recovery of the heart of the Historic Center. A job in which all his predecessors had failed.
