PHILLIP I also come ░░░░░░░░ to why the focus ░░░░░░░░ much on slavery when ░░░░░░░░ when it comes to ░░░░░░░░ history There s a ░░░░░░░░ of history that is ░░░░░░░░ these museums but he ░░░░░░░░ focused on one thing ░░░░░░░░ that is that there ░░░░░░░░ too much slavery being ░░░░░░░░ in the United States ░░░░░░░░ America That s very ░░░░░░░░ Batya honestly UNGAR SARGON ░░░░░░░░ I want to start ░░░░░░░░ saying I actually agree ░░░░░░░░ everything that s been ░░░░░░░░ And I loved your ░░░░░░░░ And so I offer ░░░░░░░░ comments very humbly because ░░░░░░░░ s an honor to ░░░░░░░░ included in this conversation ░░░░░░░░ is very solemn and ░░░░░░░░ think we all understand ░░░░░░░░ and we are all ░░░░░░░░ for the common ground ░░░░░░░░ And so what I ░░░░░░░░ about to say I ░░░░░░░░ t mean in any ░░░░░░░░ to negate that tone ░░░░░░░░ starting around 2011 2012 ░░░░░░░░ started to notice a ░░░░░░░░ in white liberal opinion ░░░░░░░░ to where white progressives ░░░░░░░░ more extreme in their ░░░░░░░░ on race than black ░░░░░░░░ Hispanic Americans And they ░░░░░░░░ this the sociologist did ░░░░░░░░ it the great awokening ░░░░░░░░ when they postulated where ░░░░░░░░ this come from why ░░░░░░░░ white progressives suddenly start ░░░░░░░░ over race in a ░░░░░░░░ that was actually far ░░░░░░░░ the left of where ░░░░░░░░ and black Americans were ░░░░░░░░ this issue they found ░░░░░░░░ the media had shifted ░░░░░░░░ how it talked about ░░░░░░░░ issues So for example ░░░░░░░░ 2010 the words white ░░░░░░░░ were mentioned 75 times ░░░░░░░░ the Washington Post and ░░░░░░░░ New York Times SINGH ░░░░░░░░ the media is different ░░░░░░░░ museums UNGAR SARGON In ░░░░░░░░ the words white supremacy ░░░░░░░░ mentioned 700 times in ░░░░░░░░ Washington Post in The ░░░░░░░░ York Times and 2400 ░░░░░░░░ in NPR The word ░░░░░░░░ 4000 times in 2020 ░░░░░░░░ words white and racial ░░░░░░░░ from 2013 to 2019 ░░░░░░░░ by 1 500 in ░░░░░░░░ New York Times and ░░░░░░░░ Washington Post and the ░░░░░░░░ slavery itself exponentially skyrocketed ░░░░░░░░ a percentage of words ░░░░░░░░ m offering this only ░░░░░░░░ suggest that PHILLIP Yeah ░░░░░░░░ understand I m just ░░░░░░░░ what do you think ░░░░░░░░ the problem with talking ░░░░░░░░ slavery white supremacy racism ░░░░░░░░ cetera UNGAR SARGON So ░░░░░░░░ point I m trying ░░░░░░░░ make here is that ░░░░░░░░ will say well this ░░░░░░░░ a reflection of reality ░░░░░░░░ of course it isn ░░░░░░░░ This is a reflection ░░░░░░░░ a newfound obsession that ░░░░░░░░ driven by the media ░░░░░░░░ that doesn t reflect ░░░░░░░░ the moral evil of ░░░░░░░░ things or the historical ░░░░░░░░ PHILLIP I do want ░░░░░░░░ dive into what you ░░░░░░░░ by that because you ░░░░░░░░ that it s you ░░░░░░░░ t think it s ░░░░░░░░ reflection of reality Based ░░░░░░░░ what Based on the ░░░░░░░░ that those things don ░░░░░░░░ exist that white supremacy ░░░░░░░░ t exist racism doesn ░░░░░░░░ exist that we shouldn ░░░░░░░░ be talking about it ░░░░░░░░ UNGAR SARGON Obviously all ░░░░░░░░ things I think are ░░░░░░░░ but there s not ░░░░░░░░ slavery now to the ░░░░░░░░ Yeah but I think ░░░░░░░░ But that s not ░░░░░░░░ that s not PHILLIP ░░░░░░░░ on a second Bakari ░░░░░░░░ of the problem is ░░░░░░░░ back you know not ░░░░░░░░ long ago in the ░░░░░░░░ or 60s even beyond ░░░░░░░░ when there was actual ░░░░░░░░ Crow happening in this ░░░░░░░░ people were actually treating ░░░░░░░░ people as second class ░░░░░░░░ we weren t talking ░░░░░░░░ those things at all ░░░░░░░░ words were virtually never ░░░░░░░░ So is that is ░░░░░░░░ better Was it better ░░░░░░░░ or was it worse ░░░░░░░░ UNGAR SARGON Abby you ░░░░░░░░ t think that 2013 ░░░░░░░░ the same as the ░░░░░░░░ right SELLERS Respectfully and ░░░░░░░░ ve had this debate ░░░░░░░░ SARGON Do you really ░░░░░░░░ that there s as ░░░░░░░░ a difference between the ░░░░░░░░ and PHILLIP That s ░░░░░░░░ my point My point ░░░░░░░░ that the use of ░░░░░░░░ language in present day ░░░░░░░░ the lack of the ░░░░░░░░ of the language back ░░░░░░░░ racism was apparent every ░░░░░░░░ day in the streets ░░░░░░░░ America doesn t reflect ░░░░░░░░ anything except perhaps a ░░░░░░░░ awareness of the reality ░░░░░░░░ we live in in ░░░░░░░░ country SELLERS That s ░░░░░░░░ the point UNGAR SARGON ░░░░░░░░ you think the country ░░░░░░░░ more racist in 2013 ░░░░░░░░ I didn t say ░░░░░░░░ about whether the country ░░░░░░░░ more racist now.”
